Discover Southern Morocco differently with Yanis Moroccan Experience
Immerse yourself in the heart of a secret and majestic Morocco with our exclusive 5-day tour, designed for travelers seeking authenticity and comfort. Departing from Casablanca or Rabat, this expedition in a latest-generation 4x4 takes you far beyond the beaten paths. By entrusting your adventure to Yanis Moroccan Experience, an approved agency (IATA/ODV), you benefit from an exceptional itinerary that combines the grandeur of earth palaces with the infinite magic of the Sahara dunes.
From the departure from Marrakech, the adventure takes on a historical dimension with the visit of the Kasbah of Telouet. This hidden gem of the Ounila valley, former residence of Pasha Glaoui, reveals interiors of unparalleled artisanal finesse behind its fortress walls. We continue our journey towards the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will spend your first night. This emblematic site, a backdrop for mythical films, offers a total immersion in the vernacular architecture of the South before reaching Ouarzazate the next day, a true crossroads of world cinema and architectural heritage with its Taourirt Kasbah.
The rest of the journey takes us into the Skoura palm grove to discover the Amridil Kasbah, a 17th-century masterpiece that perfectly illustrates traditional oasis life. Thanks to the versatility of our 4x4s, we then leave the main roads to reach Boutaghrar, nestled in the heart of the Valley of Roses. This wild and preserved stage, particularly sublime during the April bloom, is a unique opportunity to meet nomadic families of the Atlas before settling in for a peaceful night in the heart of the mountains.
The third day is one of mineral contrasts. We first explore the dizzying cliffs of the Dades Gorges, winding through the famous Tisdrine hairpin bends and admiring the "Monkey Paws" formations. Your third night in Boumalne Dades will allow you to savor the calm of the heights before resuming the road towards the Todgha Gorges. These 300-meter high limestone walls offer a grandiose natural spectacle. We then stop at Ksar Al Khorbat, a model of community restoration, to discover its fascinating oasis museum, before stopping at Jorf to explore the Khettaras, these ingenious millennia-old underground irrigation systems.
The climax of your expedition unfolds at the gates of Merzouga. After a contemplative camel ride, you will reach your luxury bivouac in the heart of Erg Chebbi. Under an absolutely pure starry sky, you will experience the magic of a Saharan night, crowned by an unforgettable sunrise over the golden sand crests. Finally, the return journey begins through the spectacular Ziz Valley, where thousands of date palms stretch as far as the eye can see between the canyons, offering a final grandiose panorama before rejoining your destination city.
You will love
The striking contrast of landscapes: In just a few hours, go from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech to the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas, then from the green oases of the Ziz Valley to the pure gold dunes of Merzouga. Every turn of your 4x4 reveals a new, film-worthy setting.
The feeling of privilege in Boutaghrar: This unique moment when you leave the asphalt for the track. You will love this feeling of exclusivity as you cross wadis and red mountains to reach Berber villages where the welcome remains pure and spontaneous.
History comes alive before your eyes: This is not just a visit, it's a journey back in time. Whether in the secret palaces of Telouet, the fortified alleys of Ait Ben Haddou, or the ancient tunnels of the Khettaras, you will touch the deep soul of Morocco.
The absolute silence of the Sahara: This memory that will remain etched forever: the moment the camel stops at the top of a dune, the sun disappears on the horizon, and the silence of the desert envelops you before a festive evening under the Milky Way.

RABAT - CASABLANCA - MARRAKECH - KASBAH AIT BEN HADDOU
Your expedition begins with departure from the metropolises of Rabat or Casablanca, where you board our premium 4x4 vehicles. Very quickly, the urban bustle gives way to the plains of Haouz, before reaching the majestic foothills of the High Atlas. After a stop in Marrakech, we begin the ascent to the mythical Tizi n'Tichka pass, culminating at 2,260 meters above sea level. This panoramic road, a true engineering feat, offers dizzying views of the deep valleys and snow-capped peaks, preparing your mind for the discovery of the hidden treasures of the South.
As soon as we cross the pass, we leave the main axis to take the historic road of the Ounila valley, a route that only the comfort of a 4x4 allows you to fully appreciate. Our first major stop is the Kasbah of Telouet. Former residence of Pasha Glaoui, this pisé palace seems to emerge from the mountain. Behind its austere silhouette lie interiors of absolute artisanal finesse: carved cedar ceilings, chiseled stucco, and remarkably precise zellige tiles that bear witness to the splendor of the Atlas lords in the early 20th century.
We continue our descent through the ochre and red landscapes of the Ounila valley, dotted with small Berber villages clinging to the cliffside. The highlight of this first day is the arrival at the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fortified village, one of the best-preserved in the country, has served as a backdrop for the greatest masterpieces of world cinema. You will spend your first night in the heart of this exceptional site, enjoying the magic of a sunset over the earth towers, an authentic immersion in the sign of history and prestige.
Overnight at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou
KASBAH AIT BEN HADDOU - KASBAH AMRIDIL - BOUTAGHRAR
After waking up in the heart of the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, lulled by the morning light on the earth towers, we resume our journey towards Ouarzazate. Nicknamed the "Gateway to the Desert", this city is the essential crossroads of international cinema. Here, we discover the majestic Taourirt Kasbah, former residence of the Glaoui, whose labyrinthine rooms bear witness to the historical importance of the city. A stop in front of the famous film studios will allow you to grasp the scale of the world productions filmed in these grandiose natural settings.
Our expedition continues towards the Skoura palm grove, a lush oasis that we traverse to reach the Amridil Kasbah. This 17th-century architectural masterpiece, a true emblem of Moroccan heritage, is one of the best-preserved in the country. The guided tour will reveal the secrets of traditional oasis life: from ancestral irrigation systems to collective granaries, all within a setting of irrigated gardens where date palms coexist with fruit trees. It is a cultural stop of great serenity, ideal before tackling the wilder landscapes of the High Atlas.
Finally, we leave the conventional roads to engage our 4x4s towards the heights of the Valley of Roses. We reach the picturesque village of Boutaghrar, nestled at the foot of ochre and red cliffs reminiscent of the Grand Canyon. In this month of April, the air is filled with the scent of blooming Damask roses. This stage is a true "gem" of Yanis Moroccan Experience: far from mass tourism, you will meet nomadic families and discover a preserved way of life. You will spend your second night in this spectacular setting, between arid mountains and rose gardens, for a total immersion in authenticity.
Overnight in Boutaghrar
BOUTAGHRAR - DADES GORGES - BOUMALNE DADES
This third day opens with the grandiose landscapes of Boutaghrar. After breakfast facing the red mountains, we harness the full versatility of our 4x4s to cross the tracks connecting the Valley of Roses to that of Dades. This exclusive route offers breathtaking views of the high plateaus where time seems to have stood still, before descending towards the Dades valley, a ribbon of greenery winding through a chaos of ochre rocks.
The exploration continues in the heart of the Dades Gorges, one of the most impressive natural sites in southern Morocco. We stop to admire the famous geological formations of Tamlalt, nicknamed the "Monkey Paws". These rounded rocks, sculpted by millennia of erosion, create a surreal landscape unique in the world. Then, we tackle the legendary Tisdrine hairpin bends: this serpentine road, a true engineering challenge, climbs the cliff to offer a spectacular panorama of the canyon below, a highlight for photography enthusiasts.
The day ends in Boumalne Dades, a strategic town perched on a desert plateau. This crossroads between the High Atlas mountains and the pre-Saharan plains offers exceptional late-afternoon light over the valley. For this third night, you will enjoy the comfort of a prestigious establishment selected by Yanis Moroccan Experience, allowing you to recharge facing the mineral immensity before heading towards the desert sands.
Overnight in Boumalne Dades
BOUMALNE DADES - TODGHA GORGES - KSAR EL KHORBAT - MERZOUGA
The departure from Boumalne Dades marks the beginning of a day rich in geographical and cultural contrasts. Our first stop takes us to the Todgha Gorges, located at the exit of Tinghir. Here, nature displays all its power: limestone cliffs rise vertically up to 300 meters high, sometimes leaving only a narrow passage of a few meters for the river and travelers. A walk through the heart of this monumental canyon is essential to feel the striking verticality of the place and the coolness of its sacred spring.
We continue our journey eastward to reach Ksar El Khorbat in Tinejdad. This beautifully restored pisé fortified village is a model of living oasis heritage preservation. Here, we visit the Oasis Museum, which offers a fascinating immersion into the history, architecture, and way of life of the Berber populations of Tafilalet. After this cultural interlude, we get back into our 4x4s heading towards Jorf to discover the Khettaras (or Kattarat). These ingenious millennia-old underground irrigation systems testify to the ancestral mastery of water, which allowed the survival of palm groves in the middle of the desert.
The climax of your trip finally unfolds as we approach Merzouga. In the late afternoon, the giant dunes of Erg Chebbi emerge on the horizon like an ocean of golden sand. It is here that you trade the comfort of the 4x4 for a camel caravan. In absolute silence, you cross the crests to witness the unforgettable spectacle of the sunset. Your fourth night is spent in a bivouac nestled in the hollow of the dunes. Between a traditional dinner around the fire, Gnaoua music, and a night under a rare pure starry sky, you experience the magical and timeless experience of the Sahara.
Overnight in Merzouga
MERZOUGA - ZIZ VALLEY - CASABLANCA
Waking up in the heart of Erg Chebbi offers one of the most poignant moments of the trip: the sunrise over the sand crests, where shadows stretch and colors shift from pale pink to vibrant orange. After this natural spectacle and a traditional breakfast at the bivouac, we leave the dunes to reach Rissani (Errissani). Former capital of Tafilalet and birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, this city is famous for its authentic souk and its unique donkey parking lot in Morocco. It's the ideal opportunity for a final immersion in the hustle and bustle of a traditional market and to taste the famous Madfouna, the local "Berber pizza".
The expedition continues north, entering the spectacular Ziz Valley. It is here that the contrast between the arid plateau and the lush greenery is most striking. We make a panoramic stop at Aoufous to overlook the immense palm grove stretching as far as the eye can see, dotted with earth-built ksars perfectly integrated into the landscape. Further on, the passage along the Hassan Addakhil dam, with its turquoise waters contrasting with the surrounding red mountains, offers a final unforgettable visual tableau before crossing the Middle Atlas reliefs.
The return journey then begins via Midelt and the cedar forests of the Atlas, where you may have the chance to spot Barbary macaques. As the mountains fade to give way to the Saïss plains and then the coast, you will reach Casablanca or Rabat by the end of the day. This 5-day trip, orchestrated by Yanis Moroccan Experience, concludes with the satisfaction of having explored a deep, authentic, and prestigious Morocco, comfortably seated in our 4x4s, with memories etched forever.
